SUNVEK is the foam roofing contractor in Arizona that you can trust. Foam roofing is perfect for apartment building roofing in Arizona as well as a wide variety of commercial roofing.

After installation of a foam roof, you will want to consider what product is used to protect the foam from the damaging UV-rays of the sun. There are two primary choices – elastomeric acrylic or silicone. Both have advantages.

Acrylics are modestly priced and easy to apply. There are two critical components to a quality acrylic – the amount of titanium (blocks and reflects heat/light) and resin (this is the elastomeric part of the coating, which permits expansion/contraction without cracking). As long as those two components are included in the coating in the correct ratios, and are quality components in themselves, the coating will hold up well, serving to minimize heat gain as well as protecting the foam beneath from the sun.

The alternative to acrylics is silicone. Silicone has a higher initial installed cost but holds up better over time. It has the added advantage of holding up well even under ponding water. Silicone expands and contracts with heating/cooling, lending itself well to exposure to the sun on flat roof surfaces. Foam roofing is one of the best materials for apartment building roofing in Arizona or any other commercial building.

For either acrylics or silicone, we recommend the lightest topcoat color possible, with white being the best. The lighter the color, the better the coating holds up over time. Our ideal is that you can walk barefoot on your roof surface mid-day in the summer.

Foam roofs can be recoated periodically to extend their useful life. Properly maintained, a foam roof can last for decades.

Protect and Add Value to your Investment with a Foam Roof

Proven and Trusted– ideal for industrial, commercial and residential flat roof applications with millions of square feet of foam roofing systems installed over the past 30 years.

Unmatched Dual Protection Against Leaks– keeps moisture out and provides multiple layers of protection against moisture and the intense rays of the sun.

A Seamless System– foam roofs have no seams or laps where leaks often develop. Polyurethane foam is self-flashing, effectively sealing all penetrations and wall junctions.

Reduced Energy Costs– spray polyurethane foam is one of the most effective insulation materials available today. Add elastomeric or silicone coatings which reflect light and heat to reduce your bills even more.

Easy Maintenance– Water cannot travel laterally through a foam roof and any minor damage can be quickly repaired using an appropriate elastomeric or urethane caulk.

A Faster, Cleaner Roofing Job– A foam roof for even a large and complex project can be completed in a very short time with minimal interference to normal business activity.

Design Flexibility– spray polyurethane foam easily conforms to unusual shapes, adhering to vertical surfaces and filling in low areas in an existing roof structure.

Metal Roof Applications– A foam roof insulates from the outside eliminating expansion and contraction, reducing stress and wear. External insulation also eliminates condensation and corrosion on the underside of the metal roofs.

Soundproofing– foam also serves to minimize the amount of noise which enters the structure from above.  You have probably noticed that when you’ve been inside a building with a foam roof, it tends to be quieter.

Foam Roof Installation

  1. Prepare the Surface:Remove all loose gravel and dirt using a blower, broom and/or pressure washer. Remove any blisters and/or nail down loose spots in the existing roof. As needed, prime all surfaces to receive polyurethane foam insulation.
  2. Apply Polyurethane Foam Insulation:Spray-apply a layer of foam to specified thickness. Spray flashings and penetrations to seal.
  3. Spray Apply Elastomeric or Silicone Coating:Spray elastomeric or silicone coating onto the foam surface, back-rolling for best adhesion. To ensure uniform and complete coverage, the coating may be applied in two coats using contrasting colors.
  4. Apply Roofing Granules (Optional):Finally, spread a layer of roofing granules onto the wet topcoat to provide additional durability and sun resistance. Walk surfaces may be installed at this time to protect the roof around equipment installations and roof access areas.
