Gutter Replacement Costs
Do you have gutters at your home or workplace? They serve two purposes – (1) keep water off your head when walking under the eaves; and (2) direct water where it will drain away from the building, to minimize the risk of foundation/other damages.
With the proper design, color and installation, gutters can be an aesthetic addition to a building. They are certainly appreciated when it rains. Unfortunately, like most things functional, they can deteriorate over time.
If steel, the gutters may rust. Paint finishes fade and chip or peel. Gutter seams open and leak. Gutter fasteners may start to pull out, leading to sagging or hanging gutters. It could be there is a desire for a change of gutter style, material or color.
Gutter styles, materials, and replacement cost estimates
Gutters are manufactured in several standard styles – open box, “K” profile and half-round. Other variables will be the width, depth and angle. They are typically manufactured from painted steel, aluminum or copper. In rare instances they may be fabricated of wood, typically lined with galvanized steel. If aluminum, they generally are fabricated in the “K” profile, along with being seamless. Other materials are generally fabricated in 10’ (sometimes 20’) lengths.
Aluminum gutter cost
Painted aluminum “K” gutter is generally the least expensive option for gutter installation. A roll-former is brought to the site, together with a coil of aluminum stock in the desired width, with gutter being run to the desired lengths and width. The cost of aluminum seamless gutter ranges from $6.00-12.00 per running foot.
Painted steel gutter cost
Painted steel gutter will be the intermediate product. It can be fabricated to be wider and deeper than aluminum, together with incorporating a variety of angles and a range of colors. It may be an open box, have an angle on the outside, be tall and narrow, or even be fabricated in a half-round or even a modified ¾ round profile. Since there are many variables that may be incorporated into fabricated steel gutters, installed pricing will range from $20.00-40.00 per running foot.
Copper gutter cost
If copper or another product is to be used as the gutter material, the installed cost may be significantly higher.
Factors that affect gutter installation costs
In addition to material, profile and color, keep in mind that distance to the job site, the height above ground of the eaves, the difficulty of access, the season, the type of roofing material installed and/or the type of fascia will all affect the final gutter replacement cost.
